Birthdays:
Dorothy Rowell (97th birthday) and her carer Anne Wallace

These are a few words from her Daughter and son in law Geoff and Ann Parkhouse.
Dorothy was born on 12th February 1913 in Stakeford, near Choppington in Northumberland and spent all her life in that county until 1988 when she moved to Houghton at the age of 75, after becoming a widow 10 years earlier.
She lived mostly in small villages, such as West Thirston, where life revolved around the Church and the Women’s Institute. Dorothy was interested in many crafts and frequently won prizes in the WI for knitting, sewing, crocheting, rug making, macramé, jam making and cookery.
Always an excellent cook she used to bake scones for the family every weekend until very recently.
Dorothy is often asked what her recipe is for her long life and the answer is always the same: “Everything in moderation” - plus, of course, the wonderful way she is looked after by Hetton Home Care and, especially, her carer Anne.
June 2006 - Hetton Home Care Services hosted a
party to celebrate the Queens 80th birthday. Over 300 service
users and friends attended and enjoyed entertainment by
the Leah Bell troupe and an afternoon tea. Transport was
provided for those who required it and everyone enjoyed
the event. Thanks to management committee member Marilyn
Barnfather who organised the day.
